Hello all incredibly smart and good looking intelligent people 😁

I’ve just bought a new 3080 series gpu with 3 x 8 pin connectors, I already have a 1200 watt psu, it’s rather old but still going strong!

My quest is that it has a rather strange colour-coded modular connector out put...
2 6pin 1 8pin 3volts in red and..
2 8pin 1 6pin 4volts in blue I

I’ve uploaded a pic so hopefully it makes a better sense ( can’t seem to upload a picture?) I’m just wondering can I just mix and match the red and blue colours 2, 8 pin blue 4 volts with 1, 8 pin red 3 volts??

Any help would be greatly appreciated.. as i’m terrified of blowing up my rig 😅

Sorry to break it to you but your ancient, group regulated PSU, designed about 15 years ago is simply not up to the job of powering one of the newest, most powerful GPU's ever made. You should have considered replacing it well before your GPU purchase. You should list your complete system specs for a proper recommendation, but in most cases a good quality 850 watt model will work for a 3080, depending on the rest of your systems power requirements. Something like this-

you’re not wrong haha! the rest of the spec is ancient also.. but it still plays all the games at decent settings!

I was going to buy the asus flow x13 laptop but thought i’d save a bit of money installing a 3080 into my pre-existing pc plus I didn’t fancy the noise from sitting on top of a laptop!

The PSU is a real deal-breaker. It would be extremely baffling to power a GPU that costs four figures with a 15-year-old PSU. The PSU was fine for its time, but the RTX GPUs are notorious for having issues with PSUs that aren't top-tier on a modern platform.

That's better! You'll get the most out of your 3080 with that system behind it. Excellent power supply too.
