Xeon e3 1231 boot issues

Hey all, just put in a new cpu (as listed above) ran into problems.

First, the system would not post at all. Then I tired removing just 1 of my 2 4GB RAM sticks.

After the first boot into the BIOS with the new CPU in, I shut down the computer and installed the RAM stick the I previously took out.

Now the system starts up for about 2-3 seconds and then shuts down and repeats the same thing over and over.

Any suggestions?

Storage: 1TB HDD

Now only one slot works? If so, the socket has likely been damaged when you tried to straighten the pins... I would RMA the board.

well, i think they wouldn't repair it because i tired to fixed the pins now. I think it could do better with a new mobo maybe.

Just don't tell them that you messed with the pins. Tell them that you put in the CPU and it didn't work right.

Asus says that they won't honor RMA's for their graphics cards if they were overclocked past the factory overclock. However, I have had two different Asus cards fail in the past five years because I pushed the voltage too high. I said "artifacting during gaming followed by card failure" for the reason to RMA, didn't mention anything about overclocking. They replaced it with no questions or complications.

so this won't be a situation where I will have to send off my motherboard for repair will it? or they send me a replacement and i just send the other board back?

You will have to open an RMA case online and send them the board.

Most companies are like that and aren't stringent on rma reasons. They'd rather have a happy customer to improve company image. If you want, you can try putting the old cpu back in to make sure it is the mobo.

It took my R9280X-DC2T-3GD5 about ten days. Ten actual days, not ten business days. And I used UPS ground from PA to CA so I'm sure at least two were just shipping to Asus.

Most companies are like that and aren't stringent on rma reasons. They'd rather have a happy customer to improve company image. If you want, you can try putting the old cpu back in to make sure it is the mobo.

well, i haven't tired that out yet. But let's just say that the other CPU works fine with both sticks of RAM? What do you think the problem would be?
