Xeon E3-1275L v3 Fc-LGA12c Indicates What Change?

Fairly recently, Intel has tagged an additional designator to the above-titled cpu, along with some others ( e.g. i5 & i7 series) but has provided no info pertaining to implied changes on its own website - the Fc-LGA... tag elicits a "not found" response for the cpu if included with the "regular" cpu designator!
Further, a direct inquiry sent to Intel has brought no response after more than 3 work-days.

The Problem: the "Fc-LGA..." added designator MUST mean something, a change in specs perhaps, but whatever it is I'd like to know what BEFORE I make the purchase.

Does anyone have a definite explanation for Fc-LGA... ?

Best Regards & Many Thanks

FC-LGA stands for Flip-Chip Land-Grid-Array. It describes two different components of the connection between the microprocessor die and the CPU socket.

Flip-Chip is a circuit mounting technique that allows for fast and easy permanent mounting of an integrated circuit to another device, usually a printed circuit board.

Land-Grid-Array is a circuit interfacing technique that allows for parts to be interchangeable while reducing cost and damage.

There are two separate electrical connections involved in interfacing a CPU to a motherboard. The first connection occurs inside the CPU package. Flip-Chip is used to mount the CPU die permanently to the CPU's PCB; this is done before the TIM is added and the heat spreader is attached. The second connection occurs between the motherboard socket and the CPU's PCB. Intel uses LGA for this interface.

Since the Flip-Chip part is internal to the CPU package, its existence isn't at all material to the electrical or mechanical compatibility of the microprocessor with a particular motherboard. Ergo, it's usually omitted.

Thank You Pinhedd !!! Takes a load of my mind - even better, I can finally go ahead with procuring the 1275L and proceeding with the project, finally knowing that there's nothing serious like a spec change involved.

The definition is lucid and pertinent, definitely something for the detail-conscious, and obviously not easy to come by!!
A fine effort that's well-regarded here.

Best To All Concerned,
