Xeon Quad Core E5460 vs X5472

Dear All-

Which processor would you go for, from the below, if they were both offered for the same price. As I understood, Xeon E stands for Economic while X stands for performance! I, however, just look at the specs and don't really care about the letter assigned because for me it is just a matter of power consumption. Anyways, While the first has higher clock speed, the second has higher FSB.

Xeon E5460:
Clock Speed: 3.16 GHz
FSB: 1333 MHz
Cache: L2 12 MB

Xeon X5472:
Clock Speed: 3.00 GHz
FSB: 1600 MHz
Cache: L2 12 MB

The links don't work and I couldn't find the E5460 at ark,intel.com, but there is an X5460 that matches your description: http://ark.intel.com/compare/33087,34447 The X5460 could be slightly faster. They were fast when released 6 years ago.

They are very close, but the X5460 wins by a bit.

The E5460 has an FSB of 1333, depending on your motherboard you can get away with pushing this. It's generally harder to push 1600.

Sorry this is 10+ weeks after your post, but this is why I would go for it, you might see 3.8GHz with adequate cooling.
