Hey everyone,

So I am building a personal rig and after searching around I couldt find information about reliability of the i7 vs the Xeon. I am building a pc for mild gaming and mainly setting up a minecraft server for my friends. My point is, if chosing a 6700k (example) would this be as efficient and powerfull as the xeon would be at handeling the computations needed for a minecraft server? Also, how would a lower-end Xeon perform in my situation? Thanks in advance.

Low end Xeon processors and i7 processors come from the same die. In fact for example in the past the ubiquitous Xeon E3-1231v3 was the i7-4770 without a GPU. Even the Xeons made on different dies are essentially the same, reliability when it comes to a...
wow, you must have a lot of friends if you require a server-grade computer for a minecraft server lol

if you are going to be gaming on it then go for the I7 but if this is strictly a server then a Xenon would be the way to go.

but it doesn't sound like you need something as powerful as a server for what you are planning to use it for so a Xenon and I7 CPU might end up being overkill

Even the Xeons made on different dies are essentially the same, reliability when it comes to a processor these days is just not a concern, the failure rate of Intel processors is less than half a percent.

You don't need a monster PC for a Minecraft server a 6700k should be more than sufficient for plenty of your friends.
