OF course new purchases are vetted. Which is why Nehalem based chips won't be in mission critical positions for a awhile. Some people claim it only takes about 6 months. But it all depends on the severity of a failure.
If you honestly think they don't disable SMT on Sparc machines for various specific workloads you are horribly mistaken.
JimmySmitth: Space systems must pass the MIL-STD-883 standard. The space shuttle still uses 80386 chips. You realize that some CPU that meet that standard have had over 80,000 hours of testing? Do you know how many years it takes to pass that specification? A nehalem based chip might meet that by about the year 2018.
Some newer avionics equipment actually use a blinding fast Intel Core 2 Duo 1.5 GHZ. It would not be wise to expect a Nehalem based CPU until about 2012 or 2013 in these devices. And even if and when that happens it is very probable that the Intel marketing toys will be disabled. (Of course I probably won't be on this forum that far in the future to laugh at anyone for claiming otherwise. I just come here now because it is amusing; not because there is ever anything relevant here.)

It is clear that your agenda seems to be to create FUD around Nehalem features that completely and utterly destroy Opereron. I wonder how your tune will change if/when AMD implements SMT in Bulldozer.
