Comes in a funky gun case

Since XFX is not on Nvidia’s launch partner list for Fermi, the company has decided to do a special version of the fastest card available, the Radeon HD 5970 X2 and call it Black Edition.

The card should be the fastest to ever launch, comes with 4GB memory with higher clocks that you used to see and it comes with XFX overclocking tool for some even higher clocks.

Since we are talking about big guns, the card comes in a special GPU case and the card will fit in the gun-box like a magazine.

The card will come in limited quantities, will enjoy superb support via live function and the users will get a special carrying bag. Let's not forget the 6 mini Displayports that can drive a 6-screen Eyefinity setup.

Absolutely, which is why I get a bit cheesed off with the fan boy ranting about the rebadging (and usually getting it wrong to boot) rather than educating people as to what was rebadged and how to tell the differences if there are any, the the 3xx series being a prime example of that.

It's ironic that NV sold re-badged GPU's yet millions still didn't hesitate to buy them, including me :lol:

If I'm not mistaken the 5970 isn't the equiv of 2 5870's and really should have a different name than 5870x2. If all the specs were the same for both GPUs onboard and for the memory as well, than I'd agree it's a re badge.

If you don't do the research then you deserve to be fooled by marketing. At least when spending over $300 on a card...

I basically paid for only one of the GTS 250's, Black Friday deal 89.99$ with lifetime and trade-in options with BFG.

The other 3 GPU's were gifts I got from family members (Best Buy gift cards).

Now I want a 470 and have no more gift cards :lol:

Liquid used to say it was ok, that people should research what they were buying - this was when Nvidia rebadged the 9800gtx to the gts250 btw.

How is this 5970 a rebadge? Two more powerful cards with the name of a less powerful one? If this is a rebadge then XFX really don't have it figured out too well.

I figured out what I'm doing with my XFX 5870, I'm trading it in for the 6 eyefinity. I am going to buy a couple of cheap 15 inch monitors, and hook em up😀 can't wait!

Well you did used to say that people should be smart enough and research cards before they bought. That was your excuse for nv's rebranding of the 9800gtx.

I'm not saying you are saying the same thing here, but others appear to be suggesting that this is somehow in the same ilk as Nvidias rebrands when it's not even close.

but my dual 250's (1GB) were actually pwning the 4850x2 so the re-badge was not soo bad after all :lol:

granted the rebrands takes a little bit more research. But this whole leaving out the X2 and GX2 pisses me off all the same. The rebrands are pathetic, but the X2 things...I mean come on!

I absolutely loved, right away knowing...ok so 5870 X2, def a dual GPU alright I'll see what happens. NOw we got Nv rebranding their cards and their X2s and Ati their X2s. Its just all adding up.

for the rebadges I did use to say that, the whole research thing, but I didn't think they would actually be dragged on and on like this.....

Something seems off, in that A: There is no HD4850, B: the GTS has ~95% scaling, and C: the 4870 performs 10% under the HD4850x2.

yea well driving games don't count, they look awesome on EF.

got to BB at around 9pm (after work), brought my food/chair/cooler/PSP and some CPU magazines then waited till 5am "doors open", and once I was in (knowing already where the GPU was) I ran faster than Usain Bolt and snatched one. I was lucky because i was number 61 out of more than 1,800 in line 😉
