Hey all,

I've had an XFX 7970 for about 3 months now. It just recently (an hour ago) started getting ridiculous heat spikes of up to 60*c when completely idling. It has NEVER done this, usually idling at my case's (Fractal Define R4) internal heat, which is about 33*c. My CPU which is a 3570k @ 4.4 GHZ idles at 33-35*c. So I know it's not my case or airflow. I am LITERALLY doing nothing and all of a sudden the fan starts spinning up to about 40-50% , which is what it normally does under FULL LOAD in games. The card is now idling at 42*c . I looked and fans are all spinning unobstructed. Any clues as to what this may be? It's driving me crazy.

Thanks, there's pretty much zero dust in the case. It's almost as if it's getting a load but in reality there's nothing going on that I can think of or see in the task manager. The system is literally just sitting there. I appreciate the help.

Ok, I fixed it apparently. It was a problem with the Virtu MVP software. I uninstalled it, and reinstalled the latest version instead of what came with my motherboard (Asrock Extreme 4). This stopped it. Hope this helps if anyone else has the same problems.
