Hello , i have exactly this graphics card : http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/radeon-hd-6950-1gb-benchmark,3041-6.html

Problem is it goes over 100C in any kind of game and it is ideling at 42C. even at 100% fan speed.
I can't ever run furmark more than 2 minutes.
The card is cleaned , the fans are working correctly , the thermal past is new , up to date drivers , bios.
There is however one thing , the bios of the GPU is changed to get all shaders unlocked , and it was working fine for some long time , but now it's just overheating too badly.
I have also try to underlock the gpu , and it's still goes way to high , room termpertures are normal.
I even tried to put another fan spinning at 100% near that gpu with the case opened! to get more airflow , still same results.
Also the card has enough room for airflow i can't really find what is wrong with it , there is no overclock nothing done on it!
The cooper heatsink however is quite hot.

Last cause that i could think of that the gpu has a bad temp sensor.
If i let the card on it's normal fan speed , it doesn't ever go to 100% fan speed , and even if i run it with 100% fan speed and it reached 100C there is no bluescreen whatsoever.
What can i do?

Specs :
1080p monitor
16gb ddr3 ram
fx 8350 oc at 4.3 with aftermarket cooler
xfx HD 6950 1gb 256bits dual fan unlocked to 6970
pus 800w 80+ Gold
mobo :gigabyte GA-970A-UD3

1x120mm front fan , 2x120mm cpu fans , 1x 120mm exhaust fan , 2xfans on gpu+80mm 100% fan speed blowing towords it ,open case .

Solution
i found the answer the damn heatsink wasn't making correct contact with the gpu , so overheating 😀 , gpu works now like a charm , but thank either way 😀
Hello,

We're sorry you are experiencing overheating. The most common oversight is not remembering to clean the Entrance to the heatsink vent next to the fan. it requires you to completely disassemble the shroud to properly clean it, but that would cause your issue.
