I bought a XFX HD 7850 1GB. While in idle the temperature stabilizes in 35ºC and I think it's normal. But while playing The witcher 2 for example, the temperature jumps to 87ºC after 15 min of gaming? Should I worry?

sounds warm to me my 7850 with a slight oc so far only gets to 65c @ 33% fan ,, but all this can be part of the ''luck of the draw'' as in what or how your card came down the assembly line ??? I see reports of cards that run nice and cool at 65c and the next reviewer states his runs hot at 85c ?? and xfx seems to have this often in there cards reviews [opinion]

all you can o is besure the cards cooling fins are clean and the fans are spinning up as needed and the case air flow is nor hampered in some way... then after all that all you can do is run it until she dies of fails ... maybe a sencer issue or just the way your card is and it will last a long time or intill you decide to upgrade from it ??

You're right, seems to be a divergence of opinions on that matter. Every review about the card that i've googled points to a normal termperature of 65ºC at full loading, but many people complains about a temperature of 80+º... It seems to be a matter of luck indeed =[

Hello,

We're sorry you are having issues with your GPU. The 7850 is a notoriously cool card, usually never breaking temperatures of 85'C. If you are experiencing temperatures above this, you may be seeing the first signs of a failing fan. If you need a replacement, please contact us at xfxsupport.com or PM me.

The GPU is amazing and every game that I've played surpassed my expectations, considering that my is the 1GB version. The temperature was my only concern from the beginning, although I never had malfunction issues (approximately 1/5 year of use).
Now that I'm considering to buy a R9 280X and pass on the HD 7850 to a friend I was wondering if the problem is with the heat sensor or the fan.

well get the gpu-z and turn on the log to file part and run something that gets it hot as you say then check the log and see what the fan is doing as it heats up

if it seems to rev. up as it gets hot then that part of things should be good if it revs up the fan and say to a high rpm and its still a high temp then I would feel its the heat sink may not be so good or a poor fit job from the factory ??? [opinion]
