Hello,

First post on Tom's Hardware and first time builder so please bare with me.

I am currently building my first PC, installing the PSU (EVGA 850 GQ) routing cables, planning ahead and routing the power for the XFX R9 390 that is on its way in the mail.

The GPU requires 8+6 pin connectors.

My PSU comes with 2 VGA power cables that have modular connectors with both an 8 and an 6+2 pin connectors per cable. The PSU has an additional 2 VGA cables that have modular connectors with 2x 6+2 pin connectors per cable

Example here http://

My Question: Do I need 2x separate VGA power cables coming from my PSU to the GPU. Or 1x VGA cable and use the modular 8 and 6+2 pin to plug into the XFX R9 390 8+6 pin header?

In short do I need 1 or 2 cables coming from the PSU to the GPU?

Please let me know if you need any additional information.

Thank you in advance for the help.

Solution
Yes, you'd have two cables for one GPU. One 6+2 which you're going to plug in the 6 pin connector on the GPU and one cable for the 8 pin connector.
