XFX TS 550w PSU Making loud fan noise under load

Help me, I got an XFX TS 550w psu yesterday and when I load a game up the fan goes nuts and goes to full speed. Only this morning I was on l4D2 and the fan did it again and my full pc shut off, even the usb power and wouldn't turn on for 2 minutes. Is it normal for the fan to do that?

How is the PSU mounted? It sounds as though it is overheating. Is anything restricting airflow into the PSU's fan?

No, i have even inverted the psu to make sure it isn't and it still makes the noise

I think your next step then would be to contact XFX about replacement, it does appear to be a faulty unit - or, it may be overloaded, what are your build specs? Running X-Fire or SLI?

Specs:
CPU: AMD Phenom 965be overclocked to 4.0ghz
GPU: Sapphire AMD Radeon R9 290 vapor-x
Motherboard: Asus M5A78L-M/usb3
CPU Cooler: Corsair H80i GT
Boot drive: Crucial M500 120gb SSD and 2 extra fans.

There's nothing going on there that should overwhelm the PSU, I'd contact the retailer (or XFX) for RMA instructions. There shouldn't be an issue with exchanging the TS 550 in there but it does appear that yours isn't operating properly.

Thank you for your help, I used a watt meter on the plug and it was drawing only 450w peak in valley benchmark and it also did random shut down's. Anyway's thanks for your help.
