Hello, I am looking to buy an HD 7870, and have decided that I want either the XFX DD model, or the sapphire one. I MUCH prefer the look of the XFX card, but there is a lot of solid reviews of the Sapphire. I have never purchased an AMD card before so I have no idea which is better.

XFX: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Graphics-XFXAMD-HD7870N-AGDDR5-RAMPCIe-Mini-DisplayPort/dp/B007MJGMYA/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&qid=1379947526&sr=8-11&keywords=HD+7870

Any help would be appreciated. Thank's for reading.

Thanks for the info! Can I ask you personally, what do you think about the look of that card? I hate the blue PCB, and the stickers on the fans. I also dislike the way it is made of plastic.

Thanks for your reply! I didn't want to go with the Asus one because it a bit more, and I have already gone over budget. As well as that, I am currently suffering from a "Problem" that I suspect is with my current, Asus 560Ti. Yeah I agree, the card LOOKS so cheap. LOL

How about this one?

Yeah, I prefer the look of that much more. What is Msi like as a brand? I do like the way the sapphire has so many good reviews though.

Nothing wrong with MSI, the Sapphire would have a higher binned chipped though if you are considering to overclock some.

Sapphire is good, but my personal opinion is to opt of XFX. XFX cards are such eyecandy, and I've never had a problem with an XFX card, and I've been buying them for a while. I had an XFX 7870 ghz DD and it was phenomenal. Quiet, great cooling, and could overclock pretty freakin well.

Unfortunately, I had to sell that system off to to get some cash and pay some bills, so I'm building a new comp and am stuck with a sapphire 7850. This is my first experience with sapphire, so we'll see how well it holds up to overclocking.

If you can afford the XFX, definitely get an XFX DD. It's well worth the money.

I've bought several XFX cards over the years and never had an issue. My XFX 7870 was the best Radeon card I've ever owned, and it was able to OC like crazy, and was pretty quiet.

Well I have seen MANY off them that are below standard, a simple google search will verify how many of them have heating and crashing issues.

Many of the ones I've read and seen have been about single fan cooling, and most cards utilizing single fans usually have heating issues.

I was looking at the reviews on newegg to see what you were talking about, and the reviews were positive. Do you have any links to the Black edition DD issue?

I used google, there really isn't much out there. I checked the search, there were a few things out there, but not much.

A few instances of a card having a problem isn't indicative of that whole line of cards or the entire brand. Sometimes, there are bad batches. Other manufacturers, including sapphire, have them too.
