http://www.anandtech.com/news/shownews.html?i=20517 ( cut and paste u lazy bastard ) has some benchmarks of the Volari range of boards. Not at all impressive for a dual GPU...

Here`s a peak

3DMark2003
Volari Duo V8 Ultra - 5600+
Volari Duo V5 Ultra - 4000+
Volari V8 Series - 3000+
Volari V5 Series - 2000+
Volari V3 Series - 1000+

All on a 3Gig P4

I dunno... for a company that's last effort was the Xabre, to produce anything that's comperable to Ati and Nvidia's latest and greatest offerings is pretty damn impressive to me.

But, like every other video card, it's about as impressive as it's price/performance ratio... and it's drivers.

But if the V8 duo comes in at $50 less than, say, a Radeon 9800 PRO, and has stable drivers (no small feat in itself), I'd be mighty impressed indeed.

Then again, there's other factors... the deltachrome for example is limited to 2x antialiassing. And who knows if the Volari butchers textures like the Xabre did? (and like the Detonator 50s do, heheh).

As usual, we're all left wondering what the real story is until actual reviewers get their hands on the things. Still, more competition is always better.

Xabre cheats were far worse than Detonator 50 cheats. You can notice the poor image quality of Xabre without looking carefully.

My theory on the 16 pipeline claim is simple: 8 pipes per GPU. I can't see any other way. Therefore, an 8-pipe design CAN exist with 2800 per GPU score, and so, a bit like a 9800PRO. This is my theory but I perceive the Volari as a uni-GPU that is crap. Though, I am sure the theory has many flaws as I think of the other scores the other models have, without Dual GPUs.

It also makes me wonder just HOW much can games benefit of Dual presence?
Maybe it's like CPUs, barely. You have to factor in just how they work together, who splits the task to who, how instructions are assigned, etc. It may need its own coding really. MultiGProcessing!
