XP Media vs. XP Pro

I purchased a Dell 4700 with XP Media edition. I use some developer
programs from IBM that require XP Profession. Just for kicks, I tried to
load them on my 4700. The programs validate the OS before installing. They
all loaded on with XP Media.

Obviously, all the prerequisites were present in XP Media. I know that XP
Media "enhances" the multimedia experience.

What is the difference between XP Pro and XP Media. Does XP Media contain
most features of XP Pro?

Media Center Edition is based on XP Pro. The only real difference of which
I am aware is that MCE does not let you log on to a domain and there is even
a very small loophole for that.

It is XP Pro with the Media Center components added. The exception is the
ability to join a domain. You can I understand opt to join a domain during
installation but doing so trades the ability to use Media Center extenders.

Other than that MCE has all the functionality of XP Pro such as Remote
Desktop, Multi-processor support, Automated System Recovery, Dynamic Disk
Support, Internet Information Services/Personal Web Server, Encrypting File
System, File-level access control etc...
