Unbeliveable! TWO deaths in 2 hours. The second Motherboard was killed by me swapping a suspect CPU into it. ( stupid but true.)

SO we went out and invested. For the XPhome machine;- a Gigabyte K7 Triton. The XPpro got a K8Triton. They both suffered the same result. Widows boots up to the "windows did not start down succesfully". Any of the options results in 5 seconds of activity and a reboot. ( The XP office gets as far as 1 sec of blue screen first).

I can't help but think that there is something fundamentaly dumb going one here.

Swapping motherboard often require to reinstall windows. At least, repair install to save some data, but it is not guarated to work.

-Always put the blame on you first, then on the hardware, UNLESS YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH A MSI BOARD !!!

Highly unlikely. The CPU would have to have a dead short to hurt your MB. Much more likely a bad MB kill a good CPU. But, yea, start over. Clear (default the CMOS) on the MB you want to use. Insert your XP disc and reformat your drive for NTFS. It's either that or try a repair install.
