XP powerdown question

I can't find anything in my bios or in the OS to make my computer shutdown correctly. It gets to the point where I get the "it is now safe to shut off your computer" screen. Unfortionately I have to push the button to turn the computer off. It used to do it automatically.

I've got XP on my Dell PII-400. It's the final version of XP.

Do you have ACPI enabled? I don't think it will power-off without it.

I'm pretty sure XP handles it automatically. I read the help file but it didn't tell me how to change anything. It used to work so I don't understand why XP would not want to let me shutdown correctly.
