XP reboots each time I go online

I'm reposting this question since it probably went unnoticed where I posted
it yesterday, inside somoene else's query.

I just installed Windows XP for the first time two days ago. It took me a
long time, but it seemed to install successfully. I also installed
TotalAccess from a CDROM, which I received some time last year. I received
the XP package more than two and a half years ago, as an upgrade for my new
Dell computer, but didn't feel like dealing with it before now. (I later
uninstalled TotalAccess after I got the runtime error message Pattie asked
about a few days ago, and that fixed that problem.)

Here's what my problem is. Each time I connect to my ISP I soon get the
message that LSA Shell (Export Version) has encountered a problem and needs
to close. It then says that the computer has created an error report to
send to Microsoft. I can give you the details of what it says in the report
if that would help. It mentions two files: lsass.exe.mdmp and
appcompat.txt, giving their location. Then, after I agree to send the
report to Microsoft, I get a message saying something about NT
AUTHORITY\SYSTEM where it tells me to save my work and counts down from
sixty seconds before the computer automatically reboots.

I would greatly appreciate it if someone can tell me how to fix this.

Thank you in advance.
Glen

Earlier today I discovered that some nefarious program was using my computer
to try to use my internet connection to reach a certain (probably
pornographic) website. This came to light after I attempted to work
offline, to see if doing that would get the computer to not reboot
automatically. After hitting 'Cancel' repeatedly, I then clicked on
'Settings' where I changed it so no program would automatically try to
connect to my ISP.

This brought two results:
1) the problem of automatic reboots suddenly stopped; and
2) I now have to connect to my ISP myself before being able to use IE or OE
(a small price to pay for temporary relief).

I went back to the message from Wesley Vogal to Pattie where I first posted
my problem (last Thursday, "runtime error") and followed his advice to get
some freeware programs to protect the computer. I plan on installing them
later this evening.

Following It's Only Me's advice, I got Stinger and ran it. (Thank you so
much, It's Only Me!) Sure enough, it found and deleted several viruses
(mslaugh.exe Blaster worm e, msblast.exe Blast worm a, wupdmgt.exe
Sdbot.worm.gen.j).

So now I have a new question: How do get IE and OE to automatically connect
to my ISP again?

Much thanks to everyone,
Glen

I think you have the Sasser Worm. Get WindowsXP-KB835732-x86-ENU.EXE
from Microsoft and patch computer. This will remove vulnerability. Use
a firewall in future.
