Running XP Home, Mozilla 1.7.3 internet package and it seems that
somehow, MX IE keeps trying to download updates and it continues to slow
down the internet access. When I want to check on updates for WXP, I can
always go to the update site. I have also been getting blasted with MS
suggestion to use their recommended spyware "Spybloc". I am already
using Spybot and AdAware along with NAV 04 and AVG7 (manually weekly), I
am not sure what point is too much protection for what I may need. The
little icon down in the task bar keeps telling me the percent of
download and I would like to terminate this operation if possible. TIA

You seem to know what you are doing.. but not.
Why do you have Automatic Updates turned on if you plan on visiting the
update site manually? Just turn off Automatic Updates.

The information is provided "as is", it is suggested you research for
yourself before you take any advice - you are the one ultimately
responsible for your actions/problems/solutions. Know what you are
getting into before you jump in with both feet.

Thanks for the vote of confidence, however, I already have it turned off
and I still get the little notice regarding update percentage. I also
get a lot of notice from MS IE about spyware and adware on my system
along with their notice that various web pages are unavailable while
offline. I don't ever recall that I did anything to turn on all this
interest from MS. I don't really want to reformat/reload my system as it
is a pain you know where. I also would like to get the "My Documents"
from being created after I delete it. I tried a couple things for that,
but no luck. Again, thanks for the input
