Whenever I log on to Windows XP Home (Svc pack 2) xvchost.exe is opened twice
with a security warning asking me if I'd like run or cancel it. What is this
and what should I do???

Thanks

There is no Windows component named xvchost.exe and a Google search
fails to find a single reference to any legitimate file with that
name.

However svchost.exe (note the spelling difference) is not only
legitimate it is an essential Windows component and there can be as
many as 6 instances of this program running on your computer at any
given time.

But if the name xvchost.exe is what you are finding then you need to
locate that file and rename or delete it so as to prevent whatever
nastiness it may be trying to do.

Good luck

This didn't help. It was located in the C:\WINDOWS\PREFETCH :-\ It just
keeps coming up. I even unchecked it from the 'startup' tab under msconfig.
What is this thing??? >.< It's so annoying...

That sounds very much like you have some sort of virus/trojan/spyware
infestation on your computer.

Make certain your antivirus software is completely up to date with the
virus definitions not more than a week old and do a complete virus
scan of your hard drive. Then get a "second opinion" by doing a free
online virus scan at one of the following sites:
http://housecall.trendmicro.com
http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/
http://www.ravantivirus.com/scan/

Next use MVP Jim Eshelman's Spyware Quick Fix Procedure at
http://www.aumha.org/a/quickfix.htm to identify and clean up any
spyware items on your computer.

Good luck
