Hi guys. Let me explain this problem.

First of all, here is my system specifications:

i7-4770k
16GB G.Skill DDR3
Asrock Extreme 4
SanDisk 240GB SSD (Main SSD/Windows SSD)
1TB Seagate HDD
2TB Seagate HDD
3TB WD HDD
120GBx2 Kingston SSD (Should be in Raid config as I see it as 240GB SSD in windows)
Corsair RM650 80+
Windows 10 Pro 64bit

So. Recently(about a week or 2 ago), my WD 3TB drive failed to be detected in Windows. I ignored it for a day. Then, I remembered that I bought it quite recently, so I might be able to get an RMA. So I decided to take it out from my PC. As I was taking it out, I accidentally yanked out one of my SSD drive's SATA cable without realising it. I then switched on my PC and it booted pretty slowly, so I forced switch off via the power button and plugged back the SATA cable in.

Then as the PC boots, I went into bios and I see both the SSDs there. And it booted into windows normally. Then I launched Windows Explorer and I could not find my SSDs. So I went to Disk Management and I found the SSDs there. But they were marked as unavailable. So I decided to format them but an error appeared, it said, Failed to format disk. Cyclic Redundancy Error.

So, I have googled on how to fix this issue but so far its all about HDDs. Then I decided to plug out both SSDs and plug into my external enclosure. Both is detected in my Windows Explorer and I formatted both of it. Not together, I did it one by one.

Right now, I have just bought another 480GB Kingston SSD, and when I plug into one of my drive slots, it is not detected in Windows at all. But when I switch it, it is detected in Windows but there were files on it, which when I try to format, another error appears, it says that the SSD is in use. Which is strange because I just got it. And its new.

So, my thought is that maybe there is a registry issue within my PC because of the forced switch off when it was loading. Any ideas how to detect the issue and solve it? Because right now my new 480GB SSD is detected, but it has like 17GB of hidden files there.. Lol.

>< Thanks for the help in advance guys. 🙁 Appreciate it.

Try this.

Computer Management --> Disk Management

From there, you'll see all HDD, SSD, & Bluray/DVD drives listed. Select the SSD you want to format and you'll be able to remove the letter assignment. Right click drive --> change Drive Letter and Paths. You may need to reboot, but should be able to format the drive now.

Strangely, when I plug in the new disk, it is automatically assigned as Drive E, which serves (i think) as a Drive C back up, that is why I cant format it..

And I may have made a mistake of converting it to a dynamic disk =_=

It is also labelled as a Page File.. =_= How do I remove that status?

Yep. already done that. Movving it to another hard drive within the PC. Just restarted. Will see how.

Hmm... I may have an answer to how this all happened.. haha.. I may have set my previous 120GBx2 HyperX Kingston SSDs as a pagefile backup.. And when I yanked out the SATA cable it may have screwed something within windows.. Lol.. Just a speculation. Will investigate further.. haha..

You had the two drives in RAID, that is why they no longer were seen. Did you try another SATA cable? Not sure what you are doing here, but seems like you are not listing the correct setup for the system and trying a bunch of different things at once that are not helping anything.

You have a lot of drives in the system and are getting confused about how they were setup or what you did with the setup. They may have been with a page file, other disk was set to dynamic, stuff like that. Don't just select options without knowing what they will do.

Turn of the system, make sure RAID is off on all the drives (assuming your boot drive was setup in AHCI and not RAID and the only RAID setup was those two SSDs). Make sure system boots OK. Turn it off, plug in one of those 120 GB SSDs, it should show up as a clean disk in the system, look in Disk Manager, you should be able to create and format a partition on it. Repeat for the second disk. Don't bother using SSDs in RAID 0, it just complicates things for no real benefit.

Yep I tried another cable its the same.

There's actually only 1 problem. The "They may have been with a page file, other disk was set to dynamic, stuff like that. Don't just select options without knowing what they will do." that you mentioned is just something which started today. Lol. Okay, if you say so.

Its ok, I already re-used the drives for other purposes. One is already on my laptop now. One is still stored, figuring out what to do with it. The reason why I had the "page file" issue is because I bought another drive to replace the 240GB Raid SSDs with one 480GB drive. So it solves the problem of the raid issue, and i dont need 3 different SSD drives in my system, now i only have 2. The other drives are working as they are. I guess I didnt explain enough or you did not get what I was trying to explain..

But anyway. I have done it already. Now I can use the 480GB SSD. Alls good. Thanks for your help anyways. And I did not set the RAID option, I guess it was set on auto. lol. I'll check it when I have time.

Btw, will clearing my cmos help in resetting the sata controllers? My mobo has 8 SATAs. At the moment only 4 of them are working and the remaining 4 is not. And also I have checked that there is not RAID settings in my bios, only AHCI.

Btw, my motherboard comes with Dr Debug. I have noticed and noted the numbers displayed on it. I will list it down.

Error Codes:
04
15
19
4F
78
71
62
99
9C
64
A2

According to the manual from the website, I am having multiple issues with my RAM, SATA and chipset. I need to know what the 4F and 9C error please. I think at the moment resetting my CMOS would do, but I have not done anything yet. And since I saw on your tag as ASrock, I hope you can assist me in getting this cleared.

Side note; I know that my RAMs are of two different ranks; hence the RAM issue displayed by Dr. Debug.

Any questions please do ask me. Thanks. And at the moment I'll just carry on my gaming. lol.

Those are not error codes, but stages of post process. It's completely normal, that those numbers change. There's problem only, when post process hangs. Then you can use debug code to identify the problem.
