I was just coming up with something that could be easily 3TB in size. Didn't know about the iPad part.
From someone else, earlier:
"Think about it. If you wanted to transfer a 3TB file from your iPad to your friend's Windows PC quickly and without installing new software or apps, how would you do it?"

A 3TB SQL DB is absolutely not uncommon.

How that is moved, and between what devices....totally different than what the article is talking about.

I have indeed moved blocks of data that size between my NAS and PC. Over a standard gigabit LAN.

But a large SQL db is not generally something you move to a friends PC. And absolutely not from an iPad, because there is no iPad with that much storage.
(and now someone will chime in with an external drive connected to the iPad...blah blah)
That would be done via other means.

If it's a single file then the data is probably more sequential in nature. That means sneakernet, with a USB3 device, will most likely be faster than 1GbE.

While how it is moved is different, I can say from experience that a storage vMotion of a 2TB VM across 1Gb iSCSI is painfully slow. That move takes several hours and you just hope there isn't a timeout for some reason.

I inherited some iSCSI arrays with 1 Gb NICs, at work. Backups of those are indeed painfully slow. Fortunately, I haven't had any flakiness with iSCSI.
