altogether it ends up being just under $800, which is great since i'm on a pretty tight budget.

I know, i know, INTEL IS WAY BETTER!!!111!one!

well, i see no problem with AMD, especially considering i have a decent cpu cooler and its 65nm instead of 90, so heat shouldnt be too big of a deal. also, its already at 3.1gHz stock, so extreme OC'ing isnt too necessary for me. maybe to around 3.4 would be the max.

anyways, lemme know what you think, and if you see any compatibility issues please tell me, so i don't feel TOO stupid :)

EDIT: whoa, wtf's up with the text? :heink:

oh ya, and that proc only has a 1mb cache, is that too big of a deal?

I'd try to fix that weird script stuff you have going on in that post

but in regards to that AMD CPU, my buddy recently got that exact same one, and so did a lot of people I know actually (was it on sale or something?) anyways, he says he really likes it, so good choice.

thanks man, and thats my choice because its ridiculously cheap. 75bucks on newegg! woot.

and btw thanks for the fast response

$75? WOW...that's actually a really good price. Are they still available? I might pick one up for a future lower-end build for my grandparents if I become proficient with putting together computers.

Right off the bat

Get a better PSU - Rosewill is not a good company for PSUs. Get PC Power and Cooling, Antec, Corsair, OCZ, etc.

You won't need DDR2 1066 unless you're doing some serious overclocking. Get DDR2 800 that is near the standard 1.8v.

I would get a WD 640 GB HDD for just a little bit more money and have the same or better performance.

The cooler is a good one, but there are better at that same price range. Unless you're going to overclock, you may not need it either.

As you stated, I would suggest an Intel processor, but that's up to you.

Good luck with the build.

Just an advice on the PSU because I have been shooping around for my own system.Zipzoomfly.com has PC Power and Cooling 750w Silencer PSU Red version for $109.99, the MIR is $30.00, and you get 2% cashback if you use Live.com search links. so your final cost $is $109.99-$30-$2.2=$77.79. Plus free fedex ground shipping.

On the WD 640gb hdd, Tigerdirect is actually a little cheaper on the 16mb cache version, $69.99.
