Hello!
As an avid gamer, Ive built a few machines over the years, this last one hung tight for 5 years; intel Q6600 2.4 gig, Vista 64 bit OS, GTX460, 4gig Ram.... It's played all games (MW series including all BO, Assassins Creed/s, full assortment of games on Steam, etc), and they have all been at 1600+ resolution with all max settings...
Call of Duty Ghosts has taken it to its knees! So after 5 years, im thinking of starting fresh...
Kinda of feeling lazy, and have been looking at the prebuilt machines....startng my research...
My question:

One of the builds uses the i7-4820K, Gigabyte x79-UP4, 16 gig ram (1866), and the Nvidia GTX 780, with an 800 W PSU. This set up is $1595. It has two storage devices. No water cooling, no monitor. I wont be over clocking. Oh, running Win 8

Im looking for longevity, like I got with the Q6600, and of course, best machine for the money.

I see another popular build, maybe just a small step down from the first one; the i7-4770K, MSI-Z87-G41, 8 gig ram (1866), and using the Nvidia GTX-770, and an 800W PSU This one runs $1275. Also Win 8

It appears that the first build would be the faster of the two, thus getting the logevity...
Im ready to pull the trigger and just wanted your more experienced input, please.

Good/bad/rockin'/slow....anything you see that im missing...

I have considered upgrading the PSU on the first build to 1000W

Thank you in advance, and sorry for the long post...

Tom W.

I appreciate your time!! See you on the battlefield!!

If you can raise you budget a bit, get this. If not, the mobo and ram can be switched out for something cheaper.

I agree with caltiger123, if you are getting it primarily for gaming, go with an i5. You also don't need near an 800W PSU, and 16GB is pointless for gaming. About the PSU, this is one of the biggest overkills people buy these days. You will be pulling around 450-500W of power.

Dropping to a build with an i5, lower wattage PSU and to 8GB of RAM could save you around $200, with a minimal (like 0-3 fps) decrease in gaming performance.

Whatever you do, DO NOT upgrade to a 1,000W PSU, you will never even hit half load on that. Those are for triple/quad SLI/CFX.

The i5 is a good choice for now, but as for longevity the i7 is better because of hyper-threading. I got 16gb of RAM for the same reason, you want this machine to be future proof. Some games are already starting to benefit from 16gb of RAM, and more and more will as the new games are released. I also choose a 750w PSU because of OC'ing, and Nividia recommends a minimum of 600w for a 780Ti.

UPDATE: If you really need to keep your budget under $1500, drop the i7 and get the i5 4670K. If you can push it a bit above, definitely get the i7.
