i am randomly getting really slow speeds from youtube servers.
youtube will slow down randomly for no reason when i try to download the video using a youtube down loader extension it downloads at about 128kbs

I am paying for 20mbs down i ran a speed test when the issue is happening i am still getting 20mbs.

direct connecting to the modem has no affect

rebooting computer and networking equipment has no affect
i am using a cable modem

youtube works fine on hot spot

If your ISP is using caching servers, you could try to block the servers, which should cause you to use a YouTube local PoP, which may be faster. I'm not sure the best way to tell if you are using caching servers, but one way that I've done it is just looked at the connections Chrome/FF were making when attempting to stream YouTube. There tends to be a lot of them and they use a decent amount of bandwidth, so they stand out.

My ISP doesn't believe in caching servers. They think it gives an unfair advantage to a single company.

YouTube rarely has issues. When they do, they're typically short lived, like maybe a day. I messed with some configs and accidentally set YouTube to stream from a German datacenter. This affected all computers...

Tried IE Fire fox and Chrome
also tried fresh install for chrome and fire fox

also that would not explain why downloading the video would be slow

thanks for the suggestion got any more :/

Have you done updates lately? What about shockwave, is it up to date?

already ran updates for java and flash
just ran update for shock wave
no affect

I can't think of anything other than it's youtube then.. Youtube has buffer issues a lot of times and it reeeeeeeally slows down.

If speedtest is showing that he's getting his full 20Mbps what does that matter?

I've been having issues with youtube lately too, it's more than likely youtubes servers again.

This affected all computers on my network. No one noticed for months. It wasn't until I decided to stream some 4k video and noticed it was taking about 3 seconds to start. I am not used to waiting for YouTube to do anything, it's nearly instant. A quick fix and I was back streaming from their Chicago PoP.
