Getting a massive head ache trying to figure out why this is occurring and if anyone could help me out I would really appreciate it. I keep getting c1 showing up in the motherboard with it beeping before it resets.

System specs

Gigabyte Z170X-GAMING 7
I5 7500 Intel processor
2 4gb hyperX fury sticks of ram
Geforce GTX 760 (holder for a new card later)
Season if s12 II Bronze 620w

I read somewhere I might need to do a bios update for the motherboard but I would have no idea where to even begin that.

Solution
The Z170 needs a BIOS update to run Kaby Lake , you would need a Skylake CPU to update it or a Z270 board. No way to update it without a 6th Gen CPU.

Send the Z170 back and get a Z270 ...Problem Solved.

If you want to keep Z170 and i5 7500 - buy a cheap 6th gen CPU to update Bios on motherboard.
Keep Z170 then buy 6th gen CPU and return i5 7500
Keep i5 7500 then buy H270 or Z270. Return Z170
If you can return both, get Z370 mobo and i5 8400 (it has 6 cores, most website sell for $200). The price should be comparable to what you paid for Z170 and i5 7500.
