Z270 7600k Upgrade Path

Current hardware:
i5 7600K
Gtx 1080ti
16gb DDR4
EVGA Supernova G2 550w psu
Asus Prime Z270-A mobo
1440p 144hz monitor

I want to upgrade to an i7 as it seems many newer games are leveraging more threads now. I’m stuck though because i know that the 8700k is more “future proof” than the 7700k but I’d have to get a new motherboard as well. Should i just get the 7700k, upgrade my whole platform, or just stick it out with the 7600k until the next cycle release.

Stay with i5 7600k for now. Is verry good gaming CPU. If you want an upgrade sell your 7600k and buy a 7700k if you want. In present 7700k is the king in gaming desktops.

Worry about "future games" in the future where it may actually matter. By the time your i5 becomes genuinely sluggish in a significant fraction of games, Icelake 8-core i7 and Zen 2 will be out, which should both make the i7-7700k pale in comparison.
