I'm looking to start a new mITX build (my first) which I hope will be a high powered (CAD / VR consumption and creation) but more portable build.

The motherboard which has caught my eye is the recently released Asus ROG Strix z270i - it has a good selection of pretty much everything I need and it looks great. The one issue is that it does not have any internal USB2.0 Headers, which would be required for a digital AIO watercooling solution such as the NZXT Kraken x62.

The motherboard comes equipped with a USB3.0 header and a USB3.1 gen 2 front panel connector. The latter I have never heard of before and cannot find anything which will plug into on the internet...

My question is this: is anybody familiar with this USB3.1 gen 2 front panel connector (image)?

Would I be able to find an adapter to convert the USB3.1 gen 2 header to a USB3.0 header to use for the ports on the front of my case? I could then use an adapter to change the other USB3.0 header to a USB2.0 header for the cooling solution.

I would rather not have a USB 2 male to USB2.0 header (male) cable routed from outside the back of the case to the inside as this will make transport much less convenient and look messy so at this point I may have to start looking at other motherboards...!

Thanks,

Sandy

Me as well and it's running excellently! Thanks for the help

How long did the Lian-Li folks take to get back to you? i'm going to order one too. I have the Z270i and running a USB cable out the back is really frustrating. Besides, i still cant control the pump via CAM software as it does not recognise it. This sounds like an awesome method.

It took just over a week to arrive I think. It was quick though.

Thanks, and with using this method the pump software and RGB controls in CAM become available? Currently my pump is (i think) running at full whack 24/7 since I got this board. I have the NZXT X42.

Yep, it works with CAM software amd its RGB. You'll be good to go!

I'm doing a build with the same case, similar motherboard (Asus Z370) and cooler. Glad others have faced and overcame this little complication. I can't seem to find where to buy the Lian-Li cable currently. Could someone help me out?

You could nicely write a request email to Lian-Li directly to buy it from them.

Thanks for the reply! What would the email address be? I emailed the one on Tin's screenshot about almost a week ago but nothing. Is there like a main one? Or that's the one?

You could simply use this:

Did that too about a 3 days ago. Reading more carefully realized that some of the guys here had to wait a week for a reply. I guess I'll just have to sit patiently in front of my boxes and wait.
Since I want to begin the build on Thanksgiving, I'm thinking of using the method with the external USB 2.0 routed outside as a temporary measure until I get a response from Lian-Li. Is it a viable for the time being? It seems someone here couldn't get CAM to recognize the device like this.

They never replied. However, the same Lian-Li cable is getting restocked on Amazon every now and then, at low volumes and high price though. I bought one for $25 and it arrived today.
