Don't know about you but the first L4D definitely had that element. Ever bumped into a Boomer when rounding a corner or opening a door? Ever got blindsided by a Hunter while crossing the street? Ever got cornered by a Tank while trying to run away from it?

IMO, L4D was better than L4D2, at least you could play L4D solo with just AI backing you up. No chance doing that successfully on L4D2 with the retarded AI that won't back you up at critical moments (like those turn-off-the-alarm rushes). Plus, L4D2 was throwing too much stuff at you to the point that it becomes a frustration rather than being enjoyable.
