When profit goes to Nvidia, some it goes to R&D to develop future products. When profit goes to AIBs and retailers, employees are hired and money is also used for warranty/customer support. When scalpers make more profit than Nvidia+AIB+Retailer combined and benefits no one but themselves, that is a travesty.
So, to bring supply and demand into line nVidia or the AIB partners should just raise prices for everyone? I like your solution... I do not think very many people would be happy with your solution... But go for it. $5,000 RTX 5090 as the bottoms price. $2500 RTX 4080s. And if they were selling for those prices, maybe they would make more product. Are you willing to see that happen to the MSRP?

You are right, if there is unlimited supply scalpers would not exist. Unlimited supply is a dream. And here scalping prices, creates efficiency in the system due to lack of supply for all. It ensures there is access for those who desperately need the items and removes supply going to people who do not.
For the most part people who are willing to pay the high price are willing to do so because they make money off of its use. Making money generally means they are making good use of it.

So, because I have a quick bot and 20k cash units allowing me to buy up the local supply of widgets it is moral to extort the people who (from your words) need a widget. That person who has acquired the RRP number of cash units to be able to purchase said widget but now cannot because as the widget dropped the bot sniped them.

There is no justification for profiteering as a routine method of making money.

Throughout the supply chain a part is designed (cost), manufactured (cost), marketed (cost), distributed to franchised dealers (cost) and sold. There is no need, no reason, no excuse, no rational justification for people who have no use for these widgets other than to sell them to make a profit.

The greedy may call this market forces, may call it an investment. It isn’t. It is depriving the market of a widget at a price that is supposed to be reasonable.

There is a further potential problem buying from scalpers, WARRANTY. Buying from scalpers is arguably buying from the grey market. Retailers will often only deal with the original purchaser wrt faults. Warranty isn’t always transferable. Your luck will depend on the policies of franchised vendor and the manufacturer. You will be buying outside of the (UK) sale of goods act which defines the relationships between vendor, customer and the state of the goods.
