The Aorus Z790 Elite X WIFI7 only has one USB 3.0 connector but the case I am planning to buy (Corsair 7000D Airflow) has 2x USB 3.0 front plugs..

I don't want to use a PCI-E card.

I could use a splitter or an internal USB 3.0 to 2.0 adapter.

Which one works the best ?

if I pick the USB 2.0 to 3.0 adapter, how do I know which front USB ports are 2.0 and which are 3.0 ?

Other option is to look for another case. I wants a full tower case that supports 420mm AIO at the ceiling in push/pull config..

Your board has USB3.2 gen2 port.
You can use USB 3.2 gen2 to USB 3.0 adapter.

Remove cable from motherboard. If port stops working, then you will know, you have removed cable for specific port.

and what about an internal USB 3.0 connector splitter ?

Single USB 3.0 header provides connection for two ports.
I suspect this splitter just divides those two available ports and reroutes one port to one header and other port to other header.
It will not allow using 4 USB ports at the same time.

Your motherboard already supports the 2 usb3 ports on the front of the case. No adapters are needed. If you check the manual you will set that the usb3 socket includes 19 pins which is 9 pins for each usb3 port on the front of the case and an extra ground pin. All motherboards and cases are designed this way. No changes are needed in your selections.

there are 4 USB 3.0 ports on the front of the case...and two USB 3.0 plugs for the board.
