Windows 10 is allegedly the last operating system Microsoft will release. Rather than creating an entirely new OS and forcing everyone to upgrade, they have built a system that can be steadily updated over time. That means a fairly steady stream fixes and improvements over the coming years. So can you tell if you’re running the latest updates? Here’s how to check your version of Windows 10.

Check your version of Windows 10
There are a few ways to check which version of Windows 10 you are running. All will provide the Windows version while some provide more detailed information than others.

Navigate to Settings, System and About.

Or:

Type or paste ‘winver’ into the Search Windows box.

Or:

Open a CMD windows and type ‘sysinfo’.

Or:

Ask Cortana.

Or:

Navigate to Control Panel, System and Security and System.

Or:

Hit the Windows key and Pause/Break.

Each of these methods will deliver you to one of three versions of your version information. The CMD and sysinfo method provides a huge amount of information about both hardware and software but is a little barebones. The detail through ‘winver’ gives you just the Windows version while the Control Panel or Settings menu gets you the familiar information window. All give you exactly what you need.
