Read this tutorial to know, how to set up a LAN server for CS to play with friends. For this tutorial, you dont need ethernet cable or any third party software..
Things Needed:
An internet connection - Wifi or Hotspot [Speed not a problem]
CS 1.6 - Install it all the pcs
Wifi enabled in all the pcs
Setting up a LAN server:
That's all. Now you have successfully created a game server! The only thing to be noted is
Now, Open the game. Goto find servers, and LAN tab. A game should be available. Choose it and Start the game. In order to change the map, open "hlds.exe" [should be in the tray icon].

Find "hlds.exe"
Run as administrator
Allow access in firewall if prompted
Configure the game
Set up a password
