How Do I View Hidden Files in Windows 8?

Just like previous versions of Windows, Windows 8 allows users and administrators to hide classified files that are to be prevented from unauthorized access. Although hiding the files does not ensure their security, they can still be prevented from showing their existence and presence on the computer. This means that files would not be shown to the users if they are hidden, but they can still be accessed in case users know their paths and the exact filenames.

Users and administrators can unhide the files permanently by enabling Windows 8 to show the hidden files, and then by going to the target file’s properties and unchecking the Hidden attribute. After doing so, users and administrators can again configure Windows 8 not to show the hidden files, which automatically hides the hidden files, and only the files whose Hidden attributes are not enabled remain visible.

Hiding the files, unhiding them, or allowing Windows 8 to show hidden files is a user specific task which means that even non-administrator users can configure the computer to do so. However the effect of this task is only reflected to the user profile on which it is configured, and other user accounts remain unaffected.
