If I were to buy a domain from GoDaddy or HostGator, would the domain be linked to an actual server? I don't know much about domains and servers and whatnot, but how would the domain be able to be accessed by users if it wasn't on a server?

OK, so I kinda fixed my computer... My computer is made from HP so it came with a Recovery Tool (if you don't have a HP computer you can probably find a download on the internet), but when I did that my files weren't backed up but only pictures were... And my pictures aren't really that helpful...
