The clearance I can already tell is a no win situation. However moving the ram is an option, but I will lose dual channel, and I'd not prefer that.

Oh is that so? I have a Corsair Carbide 540, so taking the motherboard out a few times to install was 'unnecessarily' necessary due to its design. I have two fans up top which is why I prefer it this way. But if additional heat can be avoided, then I'll simply turn it.

For those who are curious of the position: It is actually horizontal, which I believe is the default for this hsf. This is the top down view. It is not the fin that touches, but the copper against the aluminum(?) heatsink. Thankfully the ram aren't an interference.

I'm assuming the fan you are currently using is aftermarket? Have you tried a stock AMD fan that you can simply clip in there? I'm a bit suspicious of the fan you are currently using.
