New, just got it a week ago

I got a new hdd(was 1tb) and when I plugged in the sata cable and power it wouldn’t spin up. I tried other sata cables I knew worked, power cables that worked, and even sata ports that worked. Any ideas, did I just get shafted?

Sorry, keep mixing up the colors, the red wire is the one for the lighting and the yellow connects to a set of wires that eventually connects to the DVD player. As for the manual, the computer was a custom computer gift. I asked my friend and he said they didn’t give him anything for it.

I have this red switch above the psu that has two wires. One is red and is linked to a (stupid) lighting configuration for the inside of my case (just a red light). The other one is a yellow wire that is connected very far to my DVD player.
