The 960 also does provide a very good OC potential which could make it even better The 270x will still dominate and keep up to the 960 as long as you do a slight OC and for the extra 20$ you could buy a game or something else

If you are on a cheap cooler then it is most likely the VRMs overheating and you may want to try tweaking your cpu clocks/voltages to test this out If that doesn't work try the same thing with your GPU on a program such as MSI afterburner
