Not to come off as rude, but are you sure that your cables, ends for the card, and monitor, are plugged in correctly? Also is the screen turned on and set to the correct input? If your parents are a bit inexperienced with computers they may have shut off the monitor or attempted to shut it off...

Unless you have a bad rootkit that deletes windows files, I do not believe that any hardware changes can occur due to a virus. A virus is software, meaning it has to be downloaded or transferred. Probably the only hardware that could carry a virus from one PC build to another is the HDD...
