For "only" 3.0 GHz 1:1, even DDR2 667 should do the trick. You should increase the default FSB for E6600 (266) to around 333 for the CPU (333x9=2997) and the memory will be at 333x2=666, so DDR2 667. If you have DDR2 800 it still works, and if you want to take advantage of higher memory...
