Question Speakers and headset at the same time?

I have done this for my elderly parents TV, so one can use headphones at higher volume due to hearing loss and the other at a normal volume via AVR. I used plain-old RCA patch cables from their TV's RCA line-out to a AV distribution box and one stereo RCA cable to the AVR, and one to a...

Question Recommendations for an everyday mouse?

Have to recommend a gaming mouse when not gaming because of their rock-solid construction and durability, currently a good deal on the Roccat Kone Pro for $25, or the Burst Pro for $27 - either one has a very durable scroll wheel and optical switches for the buttons that can go for ~100k clicks...

Question NAS Running Horrendously Slowly, Only from One Machine Though

let me guess - windows on the desktop? Double-check your "network and sharing center" in your settings and make sure it's set to private network, which *should* allow the normal CIFS filesharing to work. If not login to one of the NAS on the laptop and check out the logs in the admin interface...

    Question Desktop USB Hub Recommendation

I do something very similar on my basement workbench, have several PCs under the bench and have a few 6' extension cables - 2x usb2, 1x usb3, 1x 3.5mm audio extension with an HDMI extension as my poor-mans KVM switch while a 1' HDMI cable with a F<=>F HDMI adapter completes the setup on the...

Build Advice Help me build a Home Server ?

IMO that single HDD is going to be a pain especially if you are going to serve out to more than one device at a time - I have an old celeron running debian with a 6x1Tb ZFS and it does well, on a budget just get a cheap sata 1Tb SSD and use the old spinner for backups. Have to admit used SSD...

Question Headphone Sound between PC and Xbox HDMI Inputs

Get whatever wireless headset that is compatible with both Xbox and PC (will probably use USB C dongle) Then get a USB C switch box similar to this one if you don't want to constantly keep hot-plugging the dongle physically.

Question Low volume from TV via optical ?

Very odd, most optical converters use high-level / amped for rca line-out, it is possible you got one that is pre-amp. Have used similar ones like this one to get optical to AVR & stereo amps and even car audio amps (combined with an old PC power supply to get +12v) and no problems, if possible...

Question Can an HDMI Firestick permanently damage a TV ?

10 year old tv, age mostly likely and could just be a coincidence - if you have an old hdmi monitor to test that would confirm, if the monitor dies then I would suspect the firestick but I am highly doubtful...

    Question New Speakers for PC

I have not heard the A5's, know someone who has a pair of Mackie's - might work for you? Question Add a subwoofer to 2.0 speakers ?

Unfortunately those speakers only have a headphone out, the aux jack is an analog input so connecting a sub would be pretty difficult since they act as their own sound card. Those are quite nice speakers BTW and look great for online meetings and chat... Maybe pick up a cheap set like the Z313...

Question What is happening to my laptop screen and can it be fixed ?

I would disassemble and find the ribbon cable that connects to the motherboard, disconnect it then reconnect it. Majority of the time it will clear it up - if not its possible it is failing and might need a replacement (at that point it might be time to replace the entire laptop...)
