Hi

I recently got a Samsung S90C TV.

Since it has no 3.5mm audio jack and my Edifier R1600T speakers don't have optical, I connected both of them with a DAC that has a built in volume control since Samsung in their infinite wisdom doesn't allow volume control over optical. However the problem is that with volume on both the speakers and the DAC volume at max, the sound is still nowhere near loud enough.

Switching back to TV speakers and increasing the volume doesn't change the volume of the optical.
Is there a DAC with an amp, or a reasonably cheap amp, that can be connected between the TV and DAC to increase the volume ?

Very odd, most optical converters use high-level / amped for rca line-out, it is possible you got one that is pre-amp.

Have used similar ones like this one to get optical to AVR & stereo amps and even car audio amps (combined with an old PC power supply to get +12v) and no problems, if possible return the one you have in favor of one of these.

Cheers!
