Build Advice UPS Backup - CyberPower CP1500PFCLCD?

Where I live I occasionally experience power flickers/interruptions. Over the course of 10 years I'd say I had over 15 or so interruptions that were strong enough to shut down or restart my PC. Truth be told, I've only learned about the existence of UPS' very recently (like within the last year)...

Question MsMpEng.exe writing several gigs a day when PC is idle, and "periodic" tasks running every day ?

Okay so I took a peek into the Temp folder in AppData and noticed that Defender wrote a couple hundred megabytes worth of files there. They were all duplicate folders all containing the same files. I looked it up and it's apparently a known issue. I purged everything in the Temp folder and...

Question MsMpEng.exe writing several gigs a day when PC is idle, and "periodic" tasks running every day ?

Hmm .. I did have some compressed backup zips, some of them around the 300-400 mb range as well as a stray nvidia driver installer which was around 700mb. Are those large enough to trigger it? Aside from that, I don't have large compressed files on my local disk, I move them all to my storage...

Question MsMpEng.exe writing several gigs a day when PC is idle, and "periodic" tasks running every day ?

I only noticed this when after updating my CPU Chipset drivers, in HWInfo64 that my boot drive was doing a lot of writing while I was monitoring CPU temps. MsMpEng.exe, whenever the PC is idle for more than a few minutes, starts writing. This coincides with the, "Windows Defender Cache...

Question Concerns about PC left in a cold room for 7-8 hours while I'm at work ?

Sorry, I should've been more specific - the heater is one of those portable oil-filled radiant heaters designed for an office room. Any traditional fan heater I use will trip the power in my room but radiant heaters are perfectly fine. Unfortunately my house was built in the early 2000s by the...

Question Concerns about PC left in a cold room for 7-8 hours while I'm at work ?

I work 9-5 so several days out of the week I'm gone for 7-8 hours. My home's ventilation and insulation is extremely subpar and as a result my room barely retains heat so I've had to get an oil heater to keep my room comfortable. Unfortunately, on the days I work I keep both my PC and my heater...

Discussion PSU recommendations and power supply discussion thread - Tom's hardware

I ended up RMA'ing it. Coil whine I could deal with - I've had instances where a new piece of hardware had coil while but it went away after a few weeks of being used. However, over the 3 days I was using the G6 it started making a new consecutive noise every day. It started making an electrical...

Yeahh mine does not like being on idle. Under any sort of load the coil whine vanishes instantly and it's completely silent but on idle it's pretty much yelling incoherently. Looking around other places, it looks like coil whine on idle for the G6 isn't uncommon.

Discussion PSU recommendations and power supply discussion thread - Tom's hardware

Yeah I'm gonna play it safe and use the G6 cables. I hooked it up to power and did a test power on with the tester it came with. It's making a fairly audible high pitched buzzing/whining. Audible with complete silence in the room and at most a foot and a half away. Becomes somewhat quieter when...

Discussion PSU recommendations and power supply discussion thread - Tom's hardware

I did shoot EVGA support an email about it, they actually responded within the hour. They said that yes, you can use the 750 P2 cables on an 850 G6 because they use the same 'pinout'. EDIT: actually wait, the PSU tier list mentions the G6 has "16awg" cables on the 850+ models and "18awg" for...

Discussion PSU recommendations and power supply discussion thread - Tom's hardware

This is a question which I don't believe requires it's own thread - I'm in the midst of replacing an EVGA 750 P2 (failing fan bearings) with an 850 G6 and was wondering if the cables are compatible? I looked on the EVGA FAQ and ... I don't 100% understand what I'm looking at tbh. "Compatible...

Question Old Samsung Tab E3 Lite, factory reset, won't update software, apps, stuck in "Create Account" error loop ?

To preface, this is a pretty old tablet (been in use since around 2017-2018). My mother received this tablet for free as part of a return compensation for something else. She used it for a bit, got a laptop and gave the tablet to me. I figured it'd be nice to use at work to listen to...

Discussion Samsung 870 EVO Not To Be Trusted

Failures have been sprinkled through basically all 2021 batches. January seems to have been the worst one though. I had a 2tb made in October 2021 and it failed in the exact same way as a January 2021 2tb it replaced.

Question 15 days after using my new ssd 870 evo its health decreasing

Same thing happened to my 870 250gig boot drive. Went from 100 to 99 in the span of 2ish weeks, it's currently sitting still at 99 for the last 12+ months. Btw since you mentioned this is your first SSD - if you decide to get another SSD for storage, I would avoid the 500gig, 1tb, 2tb and 4tb...

Question EVGA P2 750 PSU fan making a whistling noise ?

View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ps-Kh0TKcaA This is a much better example, almost no fan noise interference and the same exact noise coming from my P2's fan. 'Guess for the time being I'll just keep an eye on it and RMA it when I can.
