Found out the issue, looks like a mod call "foam fix" has a feature that is very incompatible with AMD based cpus. You can disable this feature, as i found out in these two links.

Something to note is that the gpu runs fine with other modpacks, at ~30% usage, which is the same i get when i boot up vanilla. I am starting to wonder if there is a specific mod that for some reason destroys the performance of amd based gpus.
Did all that, and used the AMD utility that recommends the best driver based on windows version, and it still has the same result. Also tried turning on opengl triple buffering as I read that AMD's performance with opengl applications are not always the best.
Just built a new system, and for some reason my GPU, a rx 580 8gb goes to 100% usage when i try to play sevtech ages. Any other game works fine, and on top of this minecraft isn't detected on the Radeon settings.
I also tried dedicating more ram, was originally using 8 gb, then tried 12, and it...
Dumb question. My current pc uses an i5 4570, which I believe is the current bottleneck in my setup. I see on User benchmark (down below) that despite the increased core count and higher base clock speed that it on average has a lower score. Do you still think it's worth swapping to it...
Thanks, ill keep that in mind too. Still looking for a good cooling solution though. Reading good things about the cooler master hyper 212 evo and its not that expensive. Should that be good enough for something like this? I also have a good thermal paste on hand, Artic Mx-4.
The problem is its a BGA based socket, so it's soldered to the board. That's the reason the motherboard needs to be replaced if i want to upgrade the cpu.
Edit: Just noticed that I didn't state that earlier, my apologies.
Can you boot to your bios screen? If you can I dont think the motherboard is dead. Could it be that its not detecting your hard drive, and that the cables may be loose?
I have an asus m5a97 evo2/m51bc/dp. In the bios, it has 3 different power modes (I'm assuming its asus's automatic overclocking), but I haven't tested them to see how fast the high-performance mode can get, nor the temps.
I will keep the AMD overdrive program in mind when I try to overclock it.
My old pc was an sff Lenovo computer, and when I upgraded I was faced with two options. Either find a low profile graphics card (I was recommended to look for a gtx 950, gtx 1050, or gtx 1030) and power supply that I think was micro atx, or get a new case that would fit a standard atx power...
Could you provide a link to the post so we can see what he told you to do? Also, you shouldn't need to worry about the files being damaged as they are located on the hard drive and or SSD.
Hm. Then I guess its a matter of how high I should aim to overclock, and what kind of cooling I would need. Ideally, though I want to use a better cooling method as this is using a used oem motherboard and cpu, so I don't know how extensively the hardware was used.
