it could be the USB port your using having issues, or if its a desktop hard drive you have to give it power through an outlet the laptop cant give it enough power

your motherboard most likely died if its giving no response and wont show bios e.t.c its most likely dead from what your saying, i can easly confirm it died

transfer the photo to your PC and open it, sometimes the pc cant grab the file info fast enough giving an error... otherwise its corrupted and you cant get them back
