If you only plan to stick to 1080p I'd argue that you're pretty safe. Of course nobody can predict what that happens the next 4-5 years. But like others have pointed out you can always tweak the settings as needed. I'm a 1080p guy myself, and my last computer used a gtx 970 for around 6 years...
