I have an older pc running a dual boot of Windows 98se and Windows XP.
I can't get it to boot. The computer powers on and I can hear the hard drive starting up but there is no video signal I wondered if it was the graphics card.
This is what the seller had to say from who I purchased the pc originally.

When I close down Windows 98 se I get the following message "Windows protection fault press any key to continue."
The computer then has to be turned off manually.
Yes the computer boots okay with GPU removed and it boots into safe mode fine. One thing I didn't mention was that I need to replace CMOS batteray. I wondered if this could be preventing Windows 7 from booting normally?
