Experts: Intel Could Face More Troubles in the EU

I just wonder why we didn't hear of such a lawsuit yet. Since the result of the EU ruling was clear you would expect AMD to file it on the very same day. Nope, its 1.06 billion € or 1.45 billion $. If AMD goes down we really loose. By the way, I live in the EU. Yesterday Intel started...

Intel Hints at Octa-Core CPUs this Year

8 cores? 24MB of Cache? 2.3 billion transistors? That was just the mistake AMD made with the first generation of Phenoms: 4 cores in 65nm make as little sense as 8 cores in 45nm; the chip just gets too big, so it will be extremely expensive to produce. OK, these are server-CPUs, so they can...

HP Launches Pavilion dv2 Notebook for $749

You could call it that way. It is basically a single-core athlon @ 1.6GHz. That makes it more powerful than the atom. If you consider Atom a nice idea, but a little too slow, this is the CPU you want to have. It has a higher power consumption, but the chipset saves the day (compared to atom)...

QOTD: Do You Use Linux/BSD With a GUI?

Linux on my desktop at home, at work and on my laptop -- the laptop has vista as well; hp refused to take the license back :(

    AMD: No 'Bulldozer' Anytime Soon

Absolutely, they are a big company, so they should dress up nicely, talk about return-on-investment, shareholder-value and they should never ever do anything funny or geeky.

AMD Roadmap: New Athlon II's Coming

How to justify them? No normal office-PC needs more performance. It offers everything most people need @50$. Agreed. They didn't perfect it; the large cache just hides it shortcomings (no integrated memory controller -- unfortunately software developers optimized their stuff for that...

QOTD: How Would You Change AMD?

The one mistake AMD made was the first version of the Phenom. From the design point of view everything was all right and it was even ahead of its time (look how much Intel copied for the Nehalem). The problem was that it doesn't make sense to produce 4 cores in 65nm -- the die gets to large...

HP Expected to Roll Out AMD-based dv6z $599 Notebook

True for the faster C2Ds, but do you really need that much CPU-power in a notebook? It doesn't hurt, but it's not always worth the money. Instead of faster CPUs I would prefer a 45nm-shrink of the existing Turions with less power consumption (-> battery time...).

Intel May Release Core i7 975 in Early April

I will wait for the Phenom II X4 955. It might not be that fast but price/performance is much better for sure :) Such prices only mean that there is to little competition on the market. By the way, the Core i7 is smaller than the C2Quad, so it is probably cheaper to produce. Just a thought...

    AMD Plans 32nm CPUs for Q4 2009

Poor article: Here is the interview. First of all we are talking about bulk, not SOI. So this is interesting for GPUs but not CPUs. Next, they say Their can be a huge difference between "entering production" and mass production. Giving that formulation the HD5xxx-cards should be TSMC again...

    AMD's 3.2 GHz Phenom II X4 955 Dated

For Upgrading an existing PC: yes. For building a new one: no. DDR3 is already pretty close to DDR2 in price, and the lower voltage makes a real difference in the power consumption (the last benchmark I saw had a Phenom II 810 with DDR2 against the same CPU with DDR3 -- the difference was...

    AMD's 3.2 GHz Phenom II X4 955 Dated

I'll stick with an AM2+ board if I upgrade in the near future even if I get a nice AM3, no need to pay DDR3 prices.
