Question Power strips with switched outlets ?

Is anyone using one of those relatively new power-strips which have some of the outlets switchable ? I have tried, and returned two models which would be very useful-if they worked as specified: typically one of the outlets, usually called the 'control' is occupied by the power cord to the...

    [SOLVED] Stereo over Bluetooth ?

I have a Windows 8.1 desktop and recently added a Creative Labs BT-W3 Bluetooth v.5 adaptor and 'front-ended' my legacy hi-fi setup with an Auris bluMe hd receiver (also BT v.5) in the hope that I would be able to transmit music in stereo to my tried and faithful NAD amplifier driving a pair of...

Support for ASUS XONAR Essence ST/STX Sound Card

Thank-you gamerk316, Your news about the 3rd part drivers is very interesting, and I went to the ASUS site a day ago and found a download list for support of the Essence - for a whole lot of O/S's. I f the official one from ASUS turns out to be dodgy its good to know that there is an alternative.

Support for ASUS XONAR Essence ST/STX Sound Card

I want to buy an ASUS Xonar Essence ST/or STX sound card for my HP Z420 desktop but I am hesitating. Several years ago, 2013 I think, there were a few posts in this and other forums to the effect that ASUS were no longer providing driver support for this card, but this post appeared in this...

    SSD as the boot drive

Thanks, you must be right; the contrary is too ridiculous. I'll order a Samsung 850 evo and install it as soon as I can find my way around the BIOS/UEFI of this machine.

Very new to PC building/upgrading, Want to purchase an SSD to set as boot drive but don't know specifics surrounding setup

I followed this path exactly as jechk21 describes, on two machines using Macrium Reflect and it worked perfectly. Only one word of caution to add: don't use the cloning option when subsequently backing up your system- as I discovered; use the option - 'Create an Image of the Partitions Required...

    SSD as the boot drive

I recently bought a HP Z420 at a good price to replace my ageing Dell Dimension 9200 desktop. I did this mainly because I have run into the upgrade barrier for the Dell - it supports only version 1 PCIe. I thought that with PCIe version 3 that the Z420 supportsI would be able to put in a...

    Samsung 960 EVO

Thank-you for this good advice. I will have enough to do getting familiar with Windows 8.1 after years of Windows 7 (on an XPS 400 !) without attempting what is described in the following posts: https://forums.anandtech.com/threads/full-nvme-support-possible-for-older-intel-chipsets.2437588/...

    Samsung 960 EVO

I recently bought a refurbished HP Z420 desktop, intending to take advantage of its PCIe Version. 3 slots to run my graphics card and a SATA SSD (not yet bought) at higher speeds, and also get some USB.3 ports. I should add that my current system has served me well, but has reached the limit...

    Driver for Nvidea 8800 GT

Yes, the NVIDEA icon in my tray prompted me to get this driver and I thought 'This must be OK then', but when I attempted to do so I got the same result, i.e. download failed. I guess this is because the down-loader detects that I am using 64-bit Firefox, but I'm curious that I was prompted in...

    Driver for Nvidea 8800 GT

Thanks for your answer. Quite a few people have asked me in the last few years why I wasn't using Google Chrome and I never had a reason up until now to leave Firefox; but this certainly is one. Not supporting Java! Come on!! So I'll probably try it, if it won't be a case of 'Grasping the...

    Driver for Nvidea 8800 GT

Bought and Installed an Nvidea 8800 GT to replace an expired AMD. Everything went fine, so fine that I don't really need to down load a driver for the 8800 as Windows appears to have done so without asking me; how this happened I don't know as, after having removed the AMD card and booting in...

    Repair disk suport of AHCI

That's right, Windows Rescue can't find any operating systems on the hard drive, so comes up with an empty list. I think that this is because the Windows Rescue software is not able to access the HDD that Windows is on because it is configured in the BIOS as an AHCI device.
