According to me, the i7 9700k would be a good choice....The 9700k has a higher base and turbo clock than the 8700 and also has an unlock clock multiplier, i.e overclocking is possible with the 9700k. It'll be a better option for vr as well as gaming too..but the 8700 supports hyper threading...

It's on iGPU (integrated graphics) right? If yes then you may increase the dedicated memory in the bios (for the iGPU) Btw can you please give your full system specifications?
